Adopt a Waiting Foster Child

FosterParenting_photo_opt_0.jpegMost foster children will return home to birth relatives; others are not as fortunate. Having lived in multiple foster placements since age two, Austin, a Wendy’s Wonderful Kid, has waited far too long to be adopted.

“I want a family who will let me get my own dog. I hope a family will know that I’m a great kid!”

— Austin, age 11

Did you know:

  • In the United States, 510,000 children are in foster care.
  • 129,000 foster children nationwide are waiting for adoptive homes.
  • Nearly 26,000 waiting children exit foster care each year without a permanent home.
  • Every day, close to 300 children in Oregon wait to be adopted.

Waiting children tend to be older, or to have experienced trauma, neglect, abuse or loss. Each story is unique, yet each child’s need is the same – to find a loving home. Wendy’s Wonderful Kids and Boys & Girls Aid have partnered with the Oregon Department of Human Services to find permanent homes for local foster children. Adoption costs are minimal or sometimes free. The most important trait for parents to be is to be a caring adult able to commit long term to a child. Austin is just one of many children waiting for a forever family.
