Craft Project: Ocean-Themed Diorama

 

Wanta souvenir from your summer trip to the coast? Create your own seaside get-away that you can enjoy inside. No need to worry about sunscreen at this ocean! This project is as easy or as hard as the amount of detail you put into it.

Materials

  • One box (shoe box or larger)
  • Colored construction paper and white paper
  • Scissors
  • Tape and Glue
  • Pencil
  • Colored Pencils/markers/crayons
  • Small plastic toys or stickers (optional)
  • Pipe cleaners, shells, small rocks, googly eyes, etc. (optional)

Steps

  1. Trace the inside of your box onto colored cardstock. Cut out and attach inside diorama.
  2. Draw your sea creatures on heavy paper. Color and cut out.
  3. Using the same color as the background, cut out several thin strips of paper (about a quarter inch by three to six inches).
  4. Tape two of the strips together perpendicular. Like an accordion, fold one strip of paper over the other until you reach the end. Tape off end.

  6. Attach one end to your creature and the other to your diorama.
  7. Fill up the rest of your ocean with other decorated sea life!
