Help your kids make a Pirate Treasure Chest to store all their treasures. This project is fun and easy to do!
Materials
- One box with lid (shoe box is perfect)
- Black, yellow, red and white paper
- Scissors
- Tape and white glue
- Small cheap paint brush
- Pencil
- Colored Pencils/markers/crayons
- Ribbon, twine, or yarn (optional)
- Stickers, beads, shells, small rocks, gems, glitter, etc. (optional)
Steps
- Start by tracing the lid (top), and box (sides and bottom) onto black and red paper, cut out and glue the black paper to the outside of your box and the red paper to the inside of your box (to make the inside look like red velvet). (Use the paint brush to brush the white glue onto to the box, so that it doesn’t look lumpy).
- Cut strips of yellow paper into one-inch strips and glue them to all the corners of the box.
- On yellow paper cut out a 2” X 2” square, draw a key hole, color it in black and glue to the front of your box.
- Using left over yellow paper draw a key and cut it out for your lock.
- You can also make handles on the sides by gluing, taping or stapling ribbon, twine, or yarn to the sides of the chest. (optional)
- Add glitter, gems, small rocks, shells, etc. to the inside and/or outside of your treasure box. (optional)
- Have Fun!!!!
