gobble, gobble

Thanks is right around the corner, and turkey is on my mind. Buying this year's bird for the first time, I was pleasantly surprised at the price. We ordered a free-range, fresh turkey from New Seasons at $1.69 per pound. I thought that was such a deal, especially considering the last holiday meal I served was Prime Rib at closer to $11 per pound. Thought again when I saw the advert for Safeway turkeys at closer to fifty cents a pound. I doubt the New Seasons poultry has ever heard the words "butter" or "ball," and it comes with five pounds of potatoes. » Read more

laugh and laugh and fall apart

Good times this weekend. Started out Friday morning with a good outing to see Penny and her Puppets at the Kenton firehouse in N. Portland. She does such a great job with the stories. Lots of little boys in the audience and pretty much all were enraptured. My Boo couldn't tear his eyes away. » Read more

Hello Darkness My Good Friend

Wild Carrots from Grasshopper Boutique

We’ve long been fans of the sweet girls dresses from Wild Carrots; recently, we tried some pants for the fella, and now we are just can’t get enough of Wild Carrots.

The best part is you can enjoy them for a long time. Pants are designed long, to be worn cuffed at first and let down as the child grows. Dresses start long and transition into tops worn with leggings or pants. K » Read more

Thanksgiving: Traditions IN, Caring About Lumps: OUT

Thanksgiving is definitely one of my favorite holidays. In my family, “Thanks” is the big one—our entire extended family, out to third cousins, gets together for a huge reunion / party. It’s a wonderful, multigenerational occasion for bonding. Plus it’s tons of fun. After the feast, we collectively put on an amateur Vaudeville show (emphasis on amateur), with the same “acts” performed each year, always to raucous applause and laughter. » Read more
