Lucia Anderson: Summer Means NO TV. Well, Not Much...

Well, summer is finally here. I’ve been bracing myself for this time for what seems like a thousand years. In actuality, it’s only been since April that I’ve been working out the camps, swim lessons, and vacation plans. But with four kids—two teens, a tween, and a toddler—to keep entertained, coordinating fun summertime activities can feel like anything but fun and is more akin to slave labor. But I did it and I am ready. » Read more

How Do You Know When Your Family is Complete?

How do you know when you’re "done"?

Within weeks after having my first baby, it seemed everyone (friends, co-workers, random shoppers at the mall) wanted to know when we were having another child. Editor's Corner (May 2009): How Easy We Forget

On a recent visit with an old dear friend who is nursing her third son, she mentioned that I stopped by at just the right time—baby was in the “S” phase. I asked what that meant. She said, “You know—EASY: eat, activity, sleep, You time.” I said that was clever and asked where she learned that. “From you,” she said. Wow. How could I have forgotten already? It has only been five years since my eldest child was an infant! » Read more

Editor's Note: “Letting Go”

My daughter "The Bean" has a stuffed giraffe she calls “Jerr.” Received as a gift at my baby shower, Jerr was there to welcome Bean home from her birth, and soon became a permanent fixture in my little girl’s arms. She came with us everywhere, and every nap and every night of slumber passed with that giraffe snuggled up in the Bean's arms. Jerr truly became a member of our family. » Read more
