Grace Espiritu first became interested in photography when visiting the First Thursday photography galleries in the Pearl District of Portland. Her love of children started much earlier (and she’s always been a kid at heart). So it was very natural for Grace to combine these two passions into her dream job as a portrait photographer specializing in babies, children, and families.
Grace loves interacting with kids and documenting their changing interests, emotions, and relationships with their parents. Sure, they may run around during the session or insist on silly faces instead of smiles, but Grace stresses that playful energy is part of her process, and makes it her mission to capture kids’ natural selves on camera. “No forced smiles here,” says Grace. This ability to capture kids being kids leads to pictures that are fun, carefree, colorful, and playful, while at the same time fresh, modern, crisp and clean.
Grace’s laidback style means that her studio, one could say, is anywhere—from an urban landscape, to a lush park or backyard. She believes that sometimes the most unlikely places bring the most interesting shots. She describes her style as modern lifestyle portraiture, and believes in using modern products, from the Eco-friendly bamboo panels on which images can be mounted to her simple and clean flush mount albums.
